Stuff about our Wedding
2012
I had a grand idea for today’s post, topic courtesy of Listicles, but a funny thing happened when we got home last night. The hubs and I were so tired that we went to bed. I know! Shocking! And I discovered that the scanner is not working, so you’ll have to read the words without the funny pictures of our wedding from 100 years ago.
I know, you are totally bummed out now.
But here’s my list of ten things about our wedding.
1. We got engaged after a shockingly short period of time. And by period of time, I mean 11 days. I know. What were we thinking?!? The answer: I don’t know.
2. We were only engaged for three months before the wedding. Oh, and we bumped the date up by two weeks. Apparently we were trying to kill off our parental units.
3. We will have been married for 15 years in November.
4. I didn’t want a wedding cake because I don’t like cake, so I let my mother pick it out. She did a great job. It was a beautiful cake. I had the one obligatory bite my new husband fed me and that was it.
5. Since I was an infant when we got married, I couldn’t even play the slot machines in Vegas on our honeymoon.
6. Our colors were burgundy and forest green.
7. Thankfully, people gave us cold, hard cash for our wedding. Otherwise, we might not have had much of a honeymoon.
8. One of my friend’s disowned me when I told her I was getting married.
9. After the wedding, we both worked two jobs and went on a real honeymoon in Europe. We went for three weeks and toured Paris and London. Those are still some of my favorite memories of our early married life.
10. I found an amazing deal on my wedding dress. It was gorgeous. (Insert picture here.) And since I was still an infant, I was teeny weeny and looked amazing in it. I’m still proud of my thriftiness.
There you have it. You may now commence being shocked and horrified. All I can say is that it made sense at the time. There have been some rough patches since we got married so quickly and so young, but I can honestly say I don’t regret any of it. It has been an adventure and I love my husband more today than the day I married him! I know, I just got mushy.

Quick isn’t always bad and you are still tiny after seven kids! Thanks for letting me have a cake..I did a good job!
I got married quickly, too, but I wasn’t *so* young. Still, my friends and family thought we were a bit on the crazy-side. I can honesty say I love him more now than ever before.

I think we were engaged after a respectable amount of time: 1 year. Most of my girlfriends and some family weren’t so happy about it though. then again, most of them had been with their current beau’s at least 3 years, and in fact one was over 5 years — and still no ring.
One of them actually told me when I started dating future hubby that I wasn’t allowed to get engaged/married before her.
So….I didn’t tell her, or invite her.

You don’t like cake?? How is that possible?

Oh my gosh…what an amazing story! I guess you just know when it’s right…even if it is after only 11 days. Why in the world would your friend disown you for getting married?
Your trip to Europe sounds wonderful

I’m hoping to glean some of your wedding dress thriftyness! Maybe just by reading about it I will fall into some lucky. Eh….when the time is right, that is.
I am only horrified that you don’t like cake!!

we got married after dating for 3 months too… but here’s what I want to know… did you guys know that you wanted a large family before you got married, or did that just kinda happen along the way?

I suppose it depends on what you think of as large. I wanted three or four and the hubs wanted as many as I was willing to have. He came from a large family and wanted a large family. It took some convincing on his part because after #4 I declared we were done. I’m really glad we ended up with 7, although it was never in my plans to be a mom to so many!
I love that you keep calling yourself “an infant” I think you’re still an infant, since you’re younger than me!
I can’t wait to see the photo
We too put off our honeymoon for sometime. It was the trip of a lifetime, worth every penny and pound!

I love that you got married so quickly. I guess when you know, you know. Right? No, really, I’m asking. Lol.
Mushy is good! I think the older you are and the more set in your ways, the harder it is to get married and compromise after you do. Of course I was an infant when I got married too. Or so my husband imagines…
