I love how you kept this in the present tense. I think it brings a presence to the piece that would be lost if told in the past tense. Great imagery. It’s clear how she loves the area. I can tell it’s a special place.

I enjoyed this, but was confused on the bear. Was it a toy bear? A true bear cub? For a minute it had me wondering and not enjoying the scenic beauty of the prairie, which you described very well. Thank you for a nice trip into a landscape I’ve never visited!

This evoked some emotional memories for me… my own kids can’t have the same kind of freedom I had, to go wander in the pasture, stick my feet in cow pies and look for bunnies!

Lovely – so clean and crisp and enveloping. I too learned young to slip between barbs, to watch for baby bunnies (or coveys of quail young). Thank you for so clearly recreating the intimate and the extraordinary in those childhood moment.

I liked this … I was a little afraid for her when she heard the bushes rustle (too many gory movies lol) … I loved the whimsical nature of this piece though.
